Dani Alves invests in Portuguese club after conviction overturned

Former Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves, whose conviction for rape in 2022 was overturned in March, has invested in a Portuguese third-division club. São João de Ver, a club founded in 1929, announced on its Facebook account that in a historic moment for the club, Dani Alves is joining as a partner in its limited sports company (SAD). According to the sports news outlet 'Mist Football', the 42-year-old Brazilian has purchased 50% of the club's capital, with the option to buy the other half by the end of the current season. The same source reports that Alves is considering making a comeback to professional football and could play for the Portuguese team within the next six months. The former right-back for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain has not played since January 2023, when he was released by his Mexican club due to the case that led to his initial conviction for rape in Barcelona in the early hours of December 31, 2022. On February 22, 2024, Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, ordered to pay 150,000 euros to his victim, and the court also imposed five years of probation upon his release and a nine-and-a-half-year restraining order against the victim. With the conviction overturned, all of these precautionary measures have been dropped.
