EU and US Prepare for Tough Negotiations

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared that the European Union is willing to cooperate with the United States and will proceed with firm negotiations if necessary. Von der Leyen emphasized that the bloc's priority is to collaborate with the U.S. in areas where interests converge, but stressed the EU's preparedness to engage in difficult discussions when required.

In a speech before the ambassadors of the European Union, Von der Leyen expressed the willingness of the Twenty-Seven to address any grievances and seek solutions in critical moments. She highlighted the strong ties between the EU and the U.S., emphasizing shared concerns about regional stability and the global economy. The president mentioned that both economies are highly integrated and represent a significant portion of global trade.

Von der Leyen underscored the importance of the transatlantic relationship, highlighting that European companies employ millions of American citizens. She expressed that both sides have much at stake, especially when the integrity of an EU member state is questioned. She also advocated for the EU to reject confrontation between blocs and promote global cooperation on critical issues such as climate change and poverty.

Von der Leyen's statements came a day after EU leaders discussed relations with the U.S. in an informal meeting following recent threats and tariff impositions by President Trump. The EU positions itself as a reliable partner that advocates for a rules-based order and prioritizes the universal respect of international law in all regions of the world, including Ukraine, the Middle East, Africa, and Denmark.
