Guillermo Ochoa's Comeback Ends in Defeat

Guillermo Ochoa returned after two months but faced a harsh reality on the pitch, with AVS losing 3-1 to Nacional in the Primeira Liga's 18th round.

Guillermo Ochoa's Comeback Ends in Defeat

Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa returned to action after two months of absence, but his return was not as desired as AVS lost 3-1 to Nacional in a match corresponding to matchday 18 of the Primeira Liga in Portugal, held at Madeira Stadium.

Ochoa was a starter and played the entire match; however, he could not prevent his team's defeat and made a mistake that resulted in the second goal for the opposing team. The first goal was scored by Bruno Costa from the penalty spot, where Ochoa was close to stopping the ball but couldn't prevent the goal. Dudu scored the second goal after a poor decision by the Mexican goalkeeper to come off his line to cut a cross, arriving late and leaving the goal unprotected.

Before halftime, Rodrigo Ribeiro pulled one back for AVS with a powerful header from a corner kick, but Djibril Soumaré sealed the match for Nacional with a shot inside the box that caught Guillermo Ochoa off guard, thus receiving another defeat in Portugal.

After this result, AVS fell to the seventeenth position on the table, temporarily placing them in the relegation zone, while Nacional climbed to 13th place with 19 points. Ochoa's team will face Gil Vicente in their next match on Monday, January 27, in hopes of getting out of the lower part of the standings.
